ALTERNATIVE READING CENTER ENCOURAGES READING IMPROVEMENT

IN THE ANTELOPE VALLEY

Quartz Hill, CA — In 2013, California was in the bottom 6 and ranked as one of our nation’s worst states in reading according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). What is even more disturbing is that School Accountability Report Cards for Palmdale, Lancaster, and Quartz Hill demonstrate that most public schools in the Antelope Valley (AV) are still lagging behind other California cities. According to the NCES, California is scheduled to test again for reading at the elementary level in 2015. As we fast approach the new year, the Alternative Reading Center (ARC) is offering free homework help from a Doctor of education.

This limited-time special, offers a free initial 2-hour study hall session with no obligation. The sessions are limited to six (6) students per class, so that each student has ample time to ask questions and discover strategies to help improve reading scores. Appointments are on a first come first serve basis. Study Hall classes are on Saturdays beginning at 9 AM. This offer will expire on December 19, 2014. The purpose is to promote reading services, on a private practice level, to improve reading scores individually and nationally.

Founded in 2013, the ARC is a learning center specializing in teaching unique learners preschool through adult. Reading services are rendered by a Doctor of education with expertise in curriculum, instruction, learning disabilities, and developmental disorders, such as ADHD. The teaching method of choice is instruction based upon individual reading goals coupled with interdependent project-based learning. Alternative methods, with a focus on motivational and one-on-one instruction, help enable students to achieve academic success and college degrees.

The ARC is a learning center where students can rediscover their self-worth, raise academic grades, and reach a point where they can thrive in regular education classrooms. The ARC is committed to delivering sound academic instruction based upon ethical principles and research-proven teaching strategies. The company is fast growing and Facebook and website reviews boast amazing testimonies. Through a commitment to excellence, the ARC delivers a creative yet rigorous learning experience for students with academic issues. As ARC students experience a change within, their confidence shines. Visit our website at www.alternativereadingcenter.com. ALTERNATIVE READING CENTER BRIDGES THE READING GAP THROUGH

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Quartz Hill, CA — To promote community awareness regarding the continual need to bridge the literacy gap in the Antelope Valley (AV), the Alternative Reading Center (ARC) will display a 5-foot long replica of the Golden Gate Bridge in the Palmdale Library August 16 through October 1, 2014. The purpose is to enhance awareness that bridging the literacy gap among students who struggle in the classroom is reachable

ARC students will carry the bridge and its display box into the children’s section of the library. ARC students drove in nails and painted the display box. They created the land/seascape and assembled the bridge. For a final touch, ARC students also made vehicles and sea creatures. Collectively carrying in the final product of a 2-month long project for display will give ARC students a sense of pride as they continue to work on increasing their reading skills. Carrying in the model will also signify the completion of one year of providing reading services in the community for students who learn differently. When parents play a proactive role, by providing outside reading services when needed, students can grow in proficiency as America moves forward with a vision for national literacy.
