About Us

The ARC's mission is to help students rediscover their self-worth, gain self-esteem, raise academic grades, and reach a point where they can thrive in regular education classrooms. The ARC is committed to delivering sound academic instruction based upon research-proven special education teaching strategies and ethical principles. The company is fast growing and has a 100% success rate for raising reading grade levels demonstrated by high marks on report cards. Through a commitment to excellence, the ARC delivers a creative yet rigorous learning experience for students with academic issues. As students experience a change within, their confidence shines. The ARC is teaching people to read one person at a time.

Alternative Reading Center seeks to help struggling students by first identifying learning gaps through a comprehensive assessment that takes approximately one hour. Learning gaps are filled through individualized instruction using specific learning goals taught by Dr. McLurkin.

About Me

I am Dr. Carol McLurkin. I hold a master’s degree in special education and a doctorate in educational leadership specializing in curriculum and instruction. My dissertation research study focuses on parental stress and three types of disorders: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Prader-Willi syndrome. Study results demonstrated that parents cope with stress by seeking support and information. One way parents can obtain support and information is by seeking supplemental educational services. As a special educator, I have the knowledge, skill, and experience to help students succeed!
